Plane crash: A Cessna 550 crashed into military housing near the Montgomery Field Airport in May, killing six people.

• Sound Talent Group co-founder Dave Shapiro and the former drummer of The Devil Wears Prada, Daniel Williams, were among those who died.

South Park ICE raid: An ICE raid at Buona Forchetta restaurant in June shook the South Park neighborhood and grew into a national controversy.

"No Kings" protests: The June protest was the largest in the city's history, drawing more than 80,000 people. Another protest in October drew 50,000.

Budget woes and fees: A budget deficit led the city to raise fees on parking and field use, start charging for parking in Balboa Park and charge for trash pickup.

Prop 50 passes: The special election in October to redraw congressional districts gives Democrats the chance to flip several GOP seats, including Republican Rep. Darrell Issa's seat in East County.

Continued license plate camera use: Almost 200 people came out to a December meeting where city council voted to continue using the controversial company Flock for its license plate cameras.

Terminal 1 opens: The $3.8 billion project finally wrapped up this fall, with more gates, food options, parking, art and modern amenities. Goodbye to the zombie bus station Terminal 1 of the past.

San Diego FC kicks off its first season: San Diego's soccer team had a banner year, making it all the way to the Western Conference final.
