With limited seating and food options, San Diego Airport's Terminal 1 was never an appealing place to kill time or wait through delays. But with the upgrades, the new terminal will be a great spot to have a meal or a drink before your flight.
Dig in: Several local restaurants, coffee shops, and a new concept by Tony Hawk and San Diego chef Claudette Zepeda are opening with the new terminal on Sept. 23.
Here's where to grab a pre-flight bite:
🐝 Better Buzz is the first spot that greets you after getting through security.
☕ Lofty Coffee brews a strong cup of joe.
🥐 Parfait Paris is a French bakery.
🌯 Taco Stand serves up some of the city's best tacos and Cali burritos.
🍕 Ambrogio 15 will be slinging its popular Milan-style, thin-crust pizza.
🥙 Luna Grill is good for quick Mediterranean plates and gyros.
🍔 McDonald's needs no introduction.
🥗 Market Hall is stocked with fresh grab-and-go items.
🍹 Cutwater Spirits' restaurant and bar will be a nice sit-down option for lunch or dinner with a cocktail.
🍷 SIP Wine and Beer is an open, circular bar located at the far end of the terminal.
🌮 Novecientos Grados by Tony Hawk is a modern Mexican bar and restaurant topped with skateboard ramps.
- Novecientos translates to 900 in Spanish, a nod to the skateboard legend's historic trick.
🥪 JT Bros., is an Arizona-based sandwich shop.
The vibe: A handful of spots are clustered in a food court that has open seating.
- You can also take your meal out on a spacious covered patio with tables, comfy lounge seating, rocking chairs and views of the city and the harbor.
🛍️ Plus, new retail shops and markets will be selling local goods.
