One hundred years after the Aztec Theatre opened its doors, the historic downtown building is adding a hotel.
The latest: The Aztec Hotel — part of Marriott's Tribute Portfolio — will open Oct. 9, ahead of a grand opening celebration on Oct. 17.
Zoom in: The 76-room boutique hotel occupies the upper floors of the Aztec Theatre building and features a rooftop restaurant and bar called Zenita.
- Dallas-based Shreem Capital owns the hotel.
- Rooms start at $179 a night during October.
The vibe: The hotel's design takes cues from the building's century-old roots. Warm, artsy and upscale, it features Aztec-inspired design and distinctly San Antonio touches.
- Zenita will serve Latin-Asian fare alongside sweeping views of downtown.
Flashback: Built in 1926 as an elaborate movie palace, the Aztec Theatre was designed in the Meso-American Revival style by the same architectural firm behind Hollywood's famed Egyptian and Chinese theaters.
