Free teacher supply store opens in San Antonio

What's happening: The SAISD Foundation Teacher Store opens Monday inside the Young Men's Leadership Academy, 415 Gabriel St., in partnership with H-E-B.

• H-E-B is providing the supplies, which range from pens and pencils to backpacks and art supplies.
• The free store will serve SAISD pre-K-12 teachers and include a workroom with poster-making and laminating equipment.

Zoom in: During the school day, students in SAISD's Adult Years Vocational Program will staff the store as part of pre-employment training.

• Retired educators with the San Antonio Area Retired Teachers Association will volunteer after school and provide mentorship.

The big picture: The store occupies space previously used by Wheatley Community School.

What's next: A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 4:30pm Monday, which is World Teachers' Day.
