Slow Ride is the neighborhood bar we all need, with a laid-back atmosphere and drinks more affordable than many other spots these days.

State of sips: Dubbed a "neighborhood lounge," Slow Ride opened in Government Hill about two years ago, and has kept a low profile ever since.

The vibe: Easygoing. Play darts or pool indoors, or drink a Lone Star out back at the picnic tables.

The whole place has a retro feel, with wood-paneled walls, large booths and lots of vintage art.

What to try: An old fashioned ($10). There's nothing fancy here, and that's the way it's meant to be — just a solid drink for a good deal while you hang with friends.
