👋 Megan here. Spending a day reporting in the Silk Road district calls for some fuel in the form of food and coffee. Here are a couple of great spots to check out.
Coffee: Baklovah Bakery & Sweets
Dig in: This place has manakish flatbread and coffee in addition to viral bakery goods.
- If you want Dubai chocolate, this is definitely the place to get it.
What to drink: A pistachio latte ($6.99). This is one of my favorite flavor trends because the sweetness is earthy and nutty.
Food: Selda Mediterranean
Dig in: You'll want to stop by here with a friend to sample a little bit of everything.
- Madalyn and I enjoyed the lunch special during our visit — $20 for one entree and one small bite means more dips for the table.
What to try: I loved the falafel combo ($20), a robust plate with homemade patties, marinated bean salad and rice.
- Madalyn enjoyed the grilled pistachio meatballs ($20), savory meat that was also served with fresh bean salad and fluffy rice.
- The grilled eggplant salad ($9), hummus ($9) and spicy ezme ($10) impressed us both.
The bottom line: Come hungry.
