By the numbers: San Antonio's largest college received 16,000 applications Oct. 13-19 — tripling the amount it received in all of October last year.
Across Texas, more than 260,000 applications were submitted to public colleges and universities, a 495% spike from the same week last year, according to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
What they're saying: "By removing financial barriers and expanding opportunities to connect with us, we're helping more Texans see just how attainable and valuable a UT San Antonio degree can be," senior vice provost for strategic enrollment Lynn Barnes said in a statement.
What's next: Free College Application Week will take place annually during the second week of October.
