A new art installation in Pearsall Park invites people to reflect on our place in the universe and our connection to nature.
The big picture: "Ujuālnān (Grand Sky)" by local artist Doroteo Garza is inspired by our solar system. The title is in Pajalate, a Coahuiltecan language once spoken in what is now San Antonio.
How it works: The installation is laid out to mirror a 1:11 billion scale of the solar system. Chris Packham, astrophysics professor at UT San Antonio, consulted on the project.
What they're saying: "The depth with which I approached the concept for this project is rooted in my understanding of San Antonio/Yanaguana as the center of the Universe," Garza said in a statement. "This is our ancestral teaching, our creation story."
If you go: Pearsall Park on the South Side also has a disc golf course, dog parks, a skate park and trails.
