San Antonio's historic Gunter Hotel is unveiling its refreshed look after renovations that began in 2023.
Why it matters: The Gunter, one of San Antonio's oldest and most storied hotels, could inject fresh energy into Houston Street with trendy dining, stylish amenities and a nod to its 116-year history.
By the numbers: The $57 million transformation includes 311 redesigned guest rooms — 30 of them suites — along with more than 20,000 square feet of updated meeting space.
Between the lines: Austin-based DLR Group led the redesign, blending The Gunter's 1909 grandeur with contemporary touches.
- The property now operates as part of Marriott Bonvoy's Tribute Portfolio.
The vibe: Guests will find four new food and beverage options, a rooftop pool and a vinyl library with more than 900 albums that can be checked out and played in rooms outfitted with record players.
- Later this year, the hotel will debut a recording studio as a tribute to blues legend Robert Johnson, who famously recorded there in 1936.
Dig in: Jots, an American fare restaurant, is open for breakfast (7–11am) and will roll out its full menu soon. The Keystone Club, a lobby bar, serves cocktails 3–10pm.
- Bar 414, the hotel's speakeasy, is also set to return, and San Antonio's first Paris Baguette will open on-site in the coming months.
What's next: The phased reopening will continue throughout the year.
