What it was like to shop Shelley Duvall's estate sale

• She was well-known for her role as Wendy Torrance in "The Shining."

The house and 11-acre property are now listed for $699,000.

Zoom in: You'd have hardly guessed the home belonged to a celebrity. It hinted at the quiet life she led after largely retiring from Hollywood.

• Outside sat dozens of large bird cages — Duvall was a bird lover, reportedly owning 70 at one point.
• Otherwise, the sale consisted of vintage clothing, rare books, home decor and movie scripts.

My thought bubble: It was a surreal feeling to window shop the shoe collection of such an iconic celebrity. I purchased some of her linen clothing and am wondering if I'll ever feel comfortable wearing it.

• Either way, I'm grateful to now own a piece of the life of someone beloved by so many.

What's next: The rest of Duvall's estate will be up for auction on Oct. 30 at Vogt Auction Galleries on Blanco Road in San Antonio. A catalog of items will be posted online ahead of time.
