What to get at San Antonio's first Yemeni coffee shop, Qatra

What to try: The Yemeni latte ($6.50) is a simple espresso and milk drink with cinnamon and cardamom. I ordered it hot with no sugar, but you can opt to have it iced with sugar.

• It's beautifully spiced and tastes like fall in a cup; for me, it's reminiscent of Glühwein.
• I do think it could use a touch of sugar if that's your thing.

Plus: Yemeni coffee shops are known for their array of sweets. Order a slice of pistachio milk cake ($7) to complete your visit.

• The spongy cake maintains bounce and flavor, even as it's drenched in milk. It's soft, creamy, fluffy and fresh — the perfect treat that isn't overly sweet.

What's next: I'm definitely heading back to try some of the specialty Yemeni coffee blends.
