Celebrate 30 years of San Antonio's Central Library

San Antonio's beloved Central Library is 30 years old, and you can celebrate it with a free birthday party Saturday.

Zoom in: Family activities at the bash include a scavenger hunt, crafts, a selfie photo booth, live music, a DJ and more. The event runs 10:30am-2:30pm.

Flashback: The city's "Enchilada Red" flagship library, designed by Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta, opened on May 20, 1995. It was funded in part by a voter-approved 1989 bond.

• It's been an iconic part of the downtown skyline ever since.

The building has inspired artists who have created works based on it — plus, the library itself is home to plenty of artwork.

• The library system will archive the memories in its Texana and Genealogy Department (you won't get items back).
