MyPlates, the vendor behind Texas' specialty plates, sold over 90,000 new custom tags in 2024. The obvious picks may be gone, but there's still room to get creative.

Why it matters: We love showing off our state pride. Vanity plates are just another way to say "this car belongs to a Texan."

We checked a list of Texas- and San Antonio-centric messages to give you a head start or spark your own plate idea.

You can use letters, numbers, spaces, and symbols like hyphens, periods, hearts, stars, or even a Texas silhouette to craft your custom plate.
Character count depends on the plate design.
Prices start at $150 a year for six characters or $195 a year for seven, with multiyear plans that can cut the cost by up to 49%.

Yes, but: Just because a plate is available doesn't mean it'll be approved. The state can reject a plate if it:

Conflicts with regular license plate formats
Includes profanity, sexual references or drug-related terms
Could be misread by police or interpreted as threatening or offensive
