Hemisfair is home to new public art that honors the area's evolution.
What they did: Centro San Antonio and Hemisfair tapped local artist Chris Fonseca to create a mural as part of the Art Everywhere Project, an initiative to transform downtown spaces.
Zoom in: Fonseca usedTrompe-l'œil techniques, which create 3D illusions on 2D surfaces.
The 1968 World's Fair, which shaped Hemisfair's identity, is the centerpiece of the mural, located behind the Magik Theatre.
There are elements of the past, present and future throughout.
What they're saying: The piece is a love letter to San Antonio, Fonseca said on Instagram.
Plus, he added symbolism like the axolotl, a critically endangered amphibian native to Mexico's lakes, in the future portion of the mural to represent his hopes for the species' survival.
