👋 Megan here. A speakeasy-style cocktail bar in New Braunfels is so good it juuust might be worth the traffic on I-35 to get there.
The vibe: To access Sidecar, you'll have to walk around the side of the Prince Solms Inn and down a staircase to the basement.
- There I found a candlelit ambience and a live jazz band playing.
What to try: The Lady Luck ($15) is a tequila drink with Bénédictine, an herbal liqueur from France. It's made with house ginger and cinnamon syrups and fresh lime and pineapple.
- It's bright and fresh, and one of the more sophisticated tequila cocktails I've had.
- For dessert, try the Coffee and a Smoke ($15). There's amaretto, two types of amaro, Licor 43, cold brew, house-made cinnamon syrup and cream. That's all topped off with a smoking cinnamon stick.
- It's like a dressed-up carajillo.
What's next: I think Sidecar will become a regular stop for me after every tubing trip this summer.
