Endless barbacoa tacos? Say less. Photo: Madalyn Mendoza/Axios
👋 Madalyn here! Sundays are for brunch and throwback Tejano jams, and I found the perfect combo at Casa Hernan in Southtown.
The vibe: The eccentric and spacious bar, perfect for happy hour margaritas, also serves up a Sunday brunch buffet. There's plenty of space to park — something rare in this neighborhood.
Hits by Bobby Pulido, Ramón Ayala and more filled the dining room when I visited.
Guests created a very San Antonio choir, singing lyrics like "Un rinconcito en el cielo" from their respective tables.
Dig in: The all-you-can-eat spread includes chilaquiles, barbacoa, tamales, eggs, menudo and pan dulce.
I took some foodie liberties and mixed up my favorites — like topping a mound of chilaquiles with tender barbacoa — to create a second-trip-worthy combo.
At $40 per person (excluding drinks) it's on the higher end, but perfect for a special Sunday funday.
