At San Antonio's NoFi Slow Bar, no WiFi is no problem

The vibe: When I walked in, I was asked to take a seat instead of ordering at the counter. Staff wait on customers like it's a restaurant.

• The whole space is pretty lowkey, including an unassuming storefront, painted white, that passersby might miss.
• The inside is relaxed, with a vintage tiled floor and muted sage green walls.

I stopped by in the late afternoon and was in the mood for some tea. But I'm already planning a return trip for its extensive coffee menu that features mainly pour-overs and espresso.

What to drink: The plum blossom herbal tea ($8) is served on a beautiful wood tray and comes with multiple steeps.

• It's slightly sweet and not overly floral.

If you go: NoFi is open 10am-4pm, Thursday through Sunday.

The bottom line: Put the laptop away and bring a book or a friend.
