Las Perlitas, which began as a ghost kitchen, is transitioning into a brick-and-mortar restaurant, bakery and bodega in the Five Points district.
The latest: The new location, housed in a 1930s home on North Flores Street across from San Pedro Springs Park, is set to open in mid-January, owner Roxanna Solis tells Axios.
Catch up quick: Las Perlitas started as a delivery-only concept at Lombrano Food Hall in February.
The vibe: Drawing inspiration from Solis' Mexican American heritage, the family-owned concept offers a nostalgic experience.
- "It's like visiting your abuelita's home — you feel comfortable. It'll take you back to that corner store where you find a little bit of everything and where people can connect to their roots," Solis says.
- The neighborhood holds special significance: It was the first place her family called home after emigrating from Mexico.
Dig in: The menu will feature a blend of Mexican, Honduran and Puerto Rican dishes, along with some Venezuelan-inspired recipes recommended by chef Willie Puppo, who is collaborating with Solis.
- Café de olla and aguas frescas will be available, with alcoholic options coming soon.
