Books, a whiskey and cigar bar from the minds of Stylus, Cellar and more, is now open in Stone Oak.
The vibe: True to its name, the bar feels like stepping into someone's cozy home library. Shelves are lined with clocks, baubles, bottles and other charming knickknacks that give off an old-world feel.
- The light fixtures have a stately look, almost like they were borrowed from the Boston Public Library.
What to try: The London Velvet ($21) might just make the trek to Stone Oak worth it.
- It's a smooth mix of Old Forester 90 Proof Whiskey, Kahlua, espresso, pistachios and pistachio cream. Think of it as if an Irish coffee and an espresso martini had a baby, with the earthy, crunchy pistachios stealing the show.
- Also, don't miss the Elderflower Serenade ($12), a bright, botanical blend of bourbon, sherry and pomegranate syrup, topped with delicate elderflower foam.
- For a touch of fall, try the Fiery Star ($13), a bourbon drink with a subtle pumpkin pie syrup twist.
Worthy of your time: Books offers happy hour Tuesday through Friday, from 5-7pm, with 50% off all whiskey served neat.
