Birria Barrio and Folklores Coffee House find new digs

Local favorites Birria Barrio y Mas and Folklores Coffee House plan to open new locations by the end of the year.

What's happening: Birria Barrio y Mas will move into 1203 S. Alamo St. in Southtown, which formerly housed a bike shop, by mid-December pending permitting, owner Sabrina Perez tells Axios.

Tatu Herrera, Folklores owner, tells Axios he plans to open a second location at 106 Michigan Ave. in Beacon Hill by early December.

Zoom in: Birria Barrio y Mas will serve its original menu, centered around consommé-drenched tacos, but Perez says a few surprises are in store. The new location will offer "endless happy hour" with $2 frozen margaritas all day.

Folklores' new location will feature a "special twist" by housing CheeseMe, a cheese and meat shop, under the same roof.

What they're saying: The comments on the announcements from Birria Barrio and Folklores echoed the same sentiment — new neighbors "can't wait" to welcome them to their respective neighborhoods.

What's next: The original walk-up location of Birria Barrio y Mas at 2710 S. Presa, which opened in 2020, will close once the Southtown location opens, Perez says.

Folklores' Government Hill location will remain open.
