Here's a fresh date idea to plan ahead for as (hopefully) milder fall temperatures roll in.
The latest: Jardín, the Mediterranean restaurant housed in the historic Sullivan Carriage House at the San Antonio Botanical Garden, recently revamped its combined brunch and lunch menu.
- It's now served daily, 9am-4pm.
The vibe: This cozy spot offers breakfast classics alongside playful bites like tiramisu pancakes and whimsical dishes that look like they were inspired by the Mad Hatter's tea party.
What to try: As a fan of Whole Foods' chantilly cake and carajillos, the carajillo topped with vanilla chantilly ($14) was a no-brainer for me — and it delivered.
- The mezze section lets you mix and match small plates. I went with the $14 option and enjoyed the house-marinated feta, pita and Bolognese-stuffed arancini. It was a trifecta of everything that makes me giddy.
- For my main, the pan-seared salmon with tzatziki, served with a refreshing tomato and cucumber orzo salad ($22), hit the spot.
- And for those fanciful bites, don't miss the avocado toast ($15) and rotating chef's doughnut ($4.50). They're almost too pretty to eat.
If you go: Try snagging a patio seat for garden views, then stroll through the lush grounds to walk off your brunch.
