A guide to San Antonio's World Heritage Festival

• A global Solidarity Day for World Heritage Cities will take place on Sunday, putting San Antonio sites among those in the international spotlight.

What they're saying: "This one-of-kind festival continues to link us to San Antonio's past and reminds us of our responsibility to support the preservation of our heritage for future generations to enjoy," Colleen Swain, director of the city's World Heritage Office, said in a statement.

State of play: Events throughout the week are aimed at engaging the community, highlighting the importance of the Missions and encouraging people to support their preservation.

Here are some highlights from the schedule. Find the full lineup of events here.

Thursday

At 1pm, head to Mission San Juan for a free, immersive agricultural tour and an acequia demonstration.

Friday

At 6:30pm, head to Mission Marquee Plaza for live music, food and a free screening of "Captain America: The First Avenger" on the original Mission Drive-In screen.

Saturday

Starting at 7am, run, walk or bike the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River and enjoy work from local artisans and food vendors.

At 10am, learn about the history of Mission San Jose from a Mission descendant and representative of the San Antonio Mission Indian Descendants.

From 10am to 1pm, bring the kids to Mission San Juan for a free Junior Ranger Day.
