Texas' Olympic medal count is leading most countries

The U.S. leads all nations in medals at the Paris Olympics going into the final weekend of competition.
Zoom in: Local medalists include San Antonio-born runner Fred Kerley, who won bronze in the men's 100-meter final.
Zoom out: Austin news station KXAN pointed out that if Texas were a country, it would be on the leaderboard for the amount of medals earned.
- So far Texas athletes —whether they're from here or trained at schools in the state — have racked up at least 30 medals, according to CBS News.
- That rivals Italy, which has 30 medals as of this writing, in the No. 7 spot.
What's next: Basketball-loving hearts will be torn tomorrow as Team USA plays France in the men's finals at 2:30pm.
- Spurs star Victor Wembanyama could win his first gold medal if France wins. He's not technically from San Antonio, but we'll claim him.
