Waffle House dreaming

👋 Megan here. I want to tell you about one of my favorite dining experiences.

Dig in: I didn't grow up with breakfast tacos, but I did grow up with Waffle House.

• The yellow façade, softly glowing orbs and mugs of bitter coffee always welcomed me as a teenager outside of St. Louis.

State of play: I haven't lived in a city with a Waffle House since I was 18, despite now living south of my hometown.

• San Antonio has longed for a location and been crushed time and time again.
• So when I had the chance to stop at one on a recent trip to Austin, I made it a priority.
• This might be one of the Austin restaurants that San Antonio can shamelessly be jealous of (or the only, depending on who you ask).

My favorites: A chocolate chip waffle with lots of syrup, hashbrowns and cheesy grits.

• (Hey, breakfast tacos aren't always a light breakfast either.)
