I enjoyed a recent visit to The Candy Bank, an old-school candy store in Old Mandeville.

The big picture: The shop sells most of its candy by weight, in addition to nostalgic treats and novelty items like Capybara Poo (lemon-flavored cotton candy) and astronaut ice cream.

The candy is in large jars, and you use tongs to pick what you want.
My son had fun getting an assortment of fruit-slice candy, unusual gummies (cat paws, fried eggs, mini cupcakes) and sour stripes.

The bottom line: These aren't the places to stock up for trick-or-treaters, but they're perfect for building a special candy basket or satisfying a sweet tooth.
