SWBNO's top jobs under scrutiny

The big picture: Council will vote on an ordinance Thursday that asks SWBNO board members to review combining the executive director and general superintendent positions.

• Council President JP Morrell says that Randy Hayman, the utility's executive director, gets paid about $500,000 a year and that his pay is not in line with that of other city department heads.
• Hayman defended his record during a 30-minute exchange with councilmembers before the ordinance advanced unopposed out of committee last week.
• Kaitlin Tymrak, who became SWBNO's general superintendent in June, was in council chambers for the discussion, but did not comment.

What he's saying: "I know what I'm doing. I'm good at what I'm doing ... but I need more than 11 months to do it," Hayman told the council Thursday.

• Hayman argued he inherited decades-old problems and cannot be expected to turn around the utility in less than a year.
