Actor Shia LaBeouf faces two counts of simple battery after New Orleans police say he punched two men early Mardi Gras morning.
Driving the news: The altercation happened around 12:45am Tuesday at a Marigny business in the 1400 block of Royal Street, NOPD said in a statement.
- LaBeouf, 39, was causing a disturbance there, the statement said, and a staffer kicked him out. The man later told authorities LaBeouf punched him several times.
- LaBeouf left and then came back, "acting even more aggressive," NOPD says. He reportedly punched the same man again and then another man in the nose.
- Bystanders held LaBeouf down until police arrived, the statement says. TMZ has a video of the encounter, which seems to show someone hitting LaBeouf.
- The actor was then taken to a hospital for medical treatment and later released, NOPD says.
Zoom in: LaBeouf was arrested on two counts of simple battery, according to court records.
- His first court appearance is at 3pm Tuesday, with another hearing scheduled for March 19.
- Shawn Holley, LaBeouf's attorney on record for other legal issues, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
The intrigue: LaBeouf listed a Laurel Street address in court records, matching an Uptown home purchased in December for $1.1 million, according to Redfin.
- It's unclear if he owns the property.
Zoom out: LaBeouf has been patronizing multiple Uptown bars over the past few days, according to Hollywood Reporter, TMZ and other outlets.
- He reportedly showed up at Ms. Mae's shirtless during the Bacchus parade and was asked to leave after he tried to "be a celebrity bartender," the Hollywood Reporter says.
- On Lundi Gras, he was outside R Bar in the Marigny for the Krewe of Red Beans parade, TMZ reports.
- The Times-Picayune says the altercation happened at the R Bar several hours later.
Flashback: Last year, LaBeouf was in Slidell for a St. Patrick's Day parade.
Editor's note: This story has been corrected to reflect that R Bar is in the Marigny (not the French Quarter).
