Cold, windy parade weekend ahead for New Orleans

The big picture: An arctic blast — stronger than the one last weekend —arrives Friday night with strong, cold winds, the National Weather Service says.

• We'll go from highs near 60° on Friday to the mid-30s on Saturday. With the wind chill, it will feel like the teens, the National Weather Service says.
• The city will be below freezing Friday and Saturday nights. Protect your people, pets, pipes and plants.
• An extreme cold warning is in effect from Friday night through Sunday morning.

Good news: It'll be dry, so there's no threat of icy roads.

Stunning stat: New Orleans was already colder than Juneau, Alaska, on Thursday morning, NWS says.

What's next: We'll warm up into the 60s by Tuesday, but another cold front is expected to arrive Wednesday.
