Archbishop James Checchio cracked a joke about the Saints during his welcome Mass yesterday at the St. Louis Cathedral.
The big picture: Checchio, who currently has the title of coadjutor (helper) archbishop, will be in charge when Archbishop Gregory Aymond retires.
The timeline is "fluid" for the transition, archdiocese spokesperson Sarah McDonald tells us.
Inside the church: Mass started with a 15-minute long procession of clergy from around the country. Notables like Gayle Benson and Mayor-elect Helena Moreno also filled the private ceremony.
