Voters head to the polls Saturday in New Orleans to cast their ballots for a new mayor, City Council and other leadership.
- Look for candidates to make a last-minute push this week.
Here are some of the recent headlines in the races.
🔎 Polls: Mayoral hopeful Helena Moreno is leading with 49% of the vote, according to a new UNO poll. If she is able to secure more than 50% on Saturday, she'll avoid a runoff.
- Meanwhile, voters say street lighting, road repairs and other basic services — not crime — are their most important concerns right now, according to a September poll from Fox 8.
🤳🏽 The influencer world is buzzing about content creator Alex Robinson, who supports Moreno. She did a parody video about mayoral candidate Royce Duplessis' talking points that disparaged Moreno.
- Another account, N.O. Strings Attached, turned Robinson's video into another parody that Robinson says "mocks" her. It has since been removed and replaced with another version.
- The anonymous account responded to a direct message from Axios, saying that N.O. Strings Attached is meant to be a satire page.
- Robinson's lawyer sent a cease-and-desist letter to Marlon Williams, owner of Chicken's Kitchen, who reposted the video to his large following.
- Williams tells Axios, "It's just for fun. It's social media."
🗣️ The race for clerk of criminal district court is getting spicy. AG Liz Murrill is publicly disputing candidate Calvin Duncan's record. He's a former Angola inmate whose conviction was vacated by a judge.
- She and incumbent Darren Lombard say Duncan can't use the word "exonerated." Duncan and city DA Jason Williams are pushing back. (WWL)
🎸 Lenny Kravitz weighed in on the mayoral race, endorsing Moreno. (Video)
- The musician used to live in the Quarter, but sold his home in 2016.
