New Orleans-shot blockbuster hits theaters

Michael B. Jordan's new movie, "Sinners," hits theaters Friday and showcases Louisiana on the big screen.
Why it matters: The film was shot in metro New Orleans and features local talent.
The big picture: Ryan Coogler, who's known for his work on "Black Panther" and "Creed," wrote and directed the film for Warner Bros.
- "Sinners" follows twin brothers, both played by Jordan, who open a juke joint in Clarksdale, Mississippi, in the 1930s and have to defend it from a vampire army, AP reports.
- Jordan co-stars with Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O'Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller and Delroy Lindo.
- It's a genre-bending period piece with action, horror, vampires, romance and gangster drama, plus a focus on blues music, AP says.
Zoom in: The $90 million movie was shot in New Orleans and elsewhere in southeast Louisiana from April to June 2024.
- The code name was "Grilled Cheese" during production because they "wanted to make something that we could make fast and that we knew we could make well," Coogler told IndieWire.
- "It ended up becoming a very complicated grilled cheese sandwich, but that was where we were at at first."
