Fritai is a Haitian street food restaurant in New Orleans' Treme neighborhood that makes you feel like you're hanging at home with chef Charly Pierre.
The big picture: Fritai is a previous James Beard Award nominee and Pierre recently competed on "Top Chef."
- The hype is real. It was hearty comfort food (menu) with a variety of cocktails and non-alcoholic options.
What we ordered: Fritay platter ($20), sos pwa ($18), clairin flight ($28), crème brûlée ($9) and passionfruit juice ($6).
- Clairin is a sugar cane spirit made only in Haiti, and we were able to pick our options for the flight, which included four different pours.
- Platters and flights are my favorite ways to eat, so this restaurant was a winner IMO. A little bit of everything, please.
- I'm looking forward to going back for the happy hour, which has drinks for $5.
