Actor and New Orleans native Wendell Pierce made a surprise appearance Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention to help cast the Louisiana delegation's votes for Kamala Harris.
Why it matters: The DNC turned what is normally a dull and predictable roll call of states into a celebrity-studded event with a performance from Lil Jon.
The big picture: Pierce introduced himself as a "proud son of Louisiana" and was surrounded by Congressman Troy Carter, Louisiana Democratic Party chair Randal Gaines, Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis, New Orleans City Council president Helena Moreno and other delegates.
- He talked about the "Big Easy," jazz and life in the northernmost Caribbean city.

Zoom in: Pierce is best known for his roles on "The Wire," "Treme," "Suits" and Prime Video's "Jack Ryan."
- He also is part owner of WBOK, one of the country's oldest and longest running Black-owned radio station.
