One of my favorite leisurely things to do in New Orleans is share dishes with friends over drinks. That's how I wound up at The Chloe.
Why it matters: This beautiful St. Charles Avenue hotel has a gorgeous patio and pool area, along with an air-conditioned dining room.
The big picture: Amanda Frentz, the interim director of marketing and communications for The Historic New Orleans Collection, said I needed to check out the charred broccoli and cauliflower salad here.
- The weather was cooperating, so we grabbed a patio table under a large umbrella and watched the streetcar roll by.

What we ordered: The salad ($14), a goat cheese dip ($16), the pickle plate ($6) and a few cocktails.
- The salad was crunchy with nuts and veggies that I swirled in the bed of parmesan creme.
- The goat cheese presentation pleasantly surprised me. The server poured hot olive oil over the cheese, which was garnished with chilis, garlic and honey.
- I then scooped the cheesy mix onto the slices of focaccia and took a sip of my gin cocktail while I enjoyed the happy little moment.
If you go: The apps are on the lunch and dinner menus.
- The pool has a day pass program for 21+. Prices start at $30.
- There's free street parking in the area.
