"Spinal Tap" sequel wraps up filming in New Orleans

Production in New Orleans is scheduled to wrap up next week on "Goodbye Cleveland," the working title for the sequel to "This is Spinal Tap."
Why it matters: The long-awaited feature film brought several big names to the city, including Elton John and Paul McCartney.
The big picture: The last day of production is April 12, according to Louisiana Entertainment. They started in New Orleans on March 6.
- Rob Reiner is directing, Deadline reports.
Catch up quick: "This Is Spinal Tap" is a 1984 rock mockumentary that became a cult classic.
- In the original, filmmaker Martin "Marty" DiBergi, played by Reiner, follows Spinal Tap, England's loudest heavy metal band.
- For the sequel, Spinal Tap reunites after a 15-year hiatus, according to Variety.
State of play: Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and New Orleans resident Harry Shearer reprise their original roles in the sequel.
- The film is packed with star-studded cameos: Elton John, Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, Questlove and Trisha Yearwood, Variety reports.
Fun fact: John and McCartney snuck into New Orleans last month, according to Keith Spera at NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune.
- John was part of a Spinal Tap concert at UNO Lakefront Arena, Spera said, while McCartney shot his cameo in a studio.
What's next: The release date hasn't been announced yet.
