Flying billboards are here, Miami — and they're "unignorable"

Flying billboards have entered Miami's airspace.

The big picture: The helicopter-powered advertisements from Heli-D are the latest ad innovation to vie for Miami eyeballs.

We already have boat-powered billboards, drone banner ads and the controversial jumbo billboard downtown.

The latest: New York-based Heli-D, part of the Australian Remarkable Media Group, uses helicopters to carry "super bright" double-sided LED billboards that measure 430 square feet.

Its website says the helicopters have "full FAA approval to fly as close as 250 [feet] from viewers if needed."
In October, the company partnered with Xbox to promote a new video game in Miami by broadcasting gameplay between two helicopters.
The stunt set a Guinness world record for the largest video game display flown by a helicopter, per Media Week.

What's next: Heli-D co-founder Simon Powell tells Axios that the company plans to fly "regularly" along Miami's beaches.

He said his billboards are attractive to brands because they are "unmissable and unignorable."
"Miami is the stepping stone to our broader U.S. expansion."
