Indy IMAX showing "The Odyssey" as Christopher Nolan intended

Fun fact: The IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum is one of just 41 venues worldwide that can play the movie in the full IMAX 70mm format, according to IMAX Indy theater manager Neil Johansson.

What they're saying: "Because we have that, people know to look for us," Johansson told Axios. "They come from all over the state and really all over the country. It's an exciting environment to see a film in."

• "I'm a big proponent of the movie-going experience. I love seeing full crowds, and you're going to get it this weekend, and probably this whole run."

By the numbers: As of this week, Johansson said the four-week run was nearly 60% booked with the first 10 days running over 85% full.

• As of Thursday morning, the only opening weekend show with seats available was the 10:45pm Sunday screening.

How it works: 70mm utilizes much larger film frames than the modern 35mm format, allowing it to capture significantly more detail, color and clarity.

• It creates a sharper, more immersive image on a large movie screen, with a greater sense of scale — especially for the kinds of sweeping landscapes and action scenes featured in "The Odyssey."

Zoom in: It's a coveted format for film geeks like Nolan ("The Dark Knight," "Oppenheimer"), who shot his "The Odyssey" entirely on 70mm IMAX cameras.

• "The Odyssey" is an adaptation of Homer's literary epic of the same name that you likely read (or studied the CliffsNotes to) in high school.

Between the lines: Johansson said beyond the format, seeing "The Odyssey" downtown will include perks like free parking in the garage, access to themed popcorn buckets and a cocktail collab with Eighth Day Distillery called "Siren Song."
