Here's what Indiana put in America's Time Capsule

What will future generations think of Indiana when they crack open America's Time Capsule 250 years from now? That we're a state that loves a good annual report.

The big picture: The 900-pound steel capsule that's big part of the country's 250th anniversary celebration includes more than 200 letters and artifacts from the federal government and all 56 states and territories, meant to create an authentic record of American life in 2026.

What's inside: A whale bone from Maine, a George Washington prayer medal from Utah and a diamond from the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, to name a few.

Zoom in: Indiana kept it all business by contributing the Indiana 250 Annual Report.

The document shares the members, mission and objectives of the state's semiquincentennial commission.

Yes, but: The Hoosier State had a little more fun when filling a separate congressional time capsule to be buried beneath the U.S. Capitol Building.

For that, Indiana's congressional delegation turned in items like IU merch to commemorate the Hoosiers' national title win, a toy RV to recognize Indiana as the RV capital of the world, a chunk of Indiana limestone and photo of a tire used in the Indy 500.

What's next: America's Time Capsule will be buried on July 4 under a new sculpture at Philadelphia's Independence Mall.

It will stay sealed for 250 years before being reopened for America's 500th birthday.
