Yes, that was snow falling from the sky yesterday. You'd be forgiven for being confused, since it was 74 degrees the day before.
Why it matters: Apparently, winter wants to remind us that she's here through the end of the week.
State of brrr: There's a good chance we'll see more snow today and tomorrow.
- It shouldn't be enough to accumulate — just enough to hurt our feelings (and flowers).
- Temperatures will rise back into the 60s later in the week, just in time for spring to officially begin on Friday.
Between the lines: Though it feels downright rude, the cold dip isn't actually that out of character.
- The typical date of last measurable snowfall is actually March 16, according to National Weather Service records.
- And during a typical year, we receive more than 3 inches of snow over the course of the month.
- So far this March, we've only seen an inch.
The other side: The high winds the region saw over the weekend were out of the ordinary, though.
- Gusts over 60 mph were so strong on Friday that vehicles were blown off the road and trees were brought down, causing damage and numerous power outages.
Reality check: It could be worse. At least we're not in the upper Midwest, which is currently dealing with a literal blizzard.
What's next: The spring outlook calls for average temperatures and, perhaps, a slightly wetter season, according to NWS's Climate Prediction Center.
- That means average temps in the 50s, lots of rain and, yes, maybe a little more snow.
