Indiana strengthens partnership with Turning Point USA

Indiana's schools are open and welcoming to Turning Point USA's conservative Club America.

Why it matters: That was the message Gov. Mike Braun delivered Thursday, flanked by leaders from the nonprofit, which focuses on educating, training and organizing students to promote a pro-Christian, pro-freedom and pro-America message.

Driving the news: Indiana became the eighth state to partner with Turning Point, helping the organization expand its national network of young recruits.

Braun called on "all Indiana schools and universities to take all steps to facilitate student organizations like Turning Point USA chapters that foster the values of liberty and freedom of speech for the next generation."

Catch up quick: This week, Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales announced a partnership with Turning Point to hold voter registration drives on Hoosier high school campuses.

Flashback: Turning Point was founded by Charlie Kirk, the right-wing activist fatally shot last year at an event at Utah Valley University.

Kirk was incredibly popular among conservative college students, and the organization's college program has chapters on more than 800 campuses.

The latest: Turning Point is turning its efforts to America's high schools.

Club America, its school-based program, is already in 1,200 high schools around the country.
The goal is to expand that to all high schools in Indiana, state leaders said Thursday.
