Welcome to Axios Indianapolis' remixed 'Burb Bites — a space that used to be all about food, but now is all about news.
Yes, but: Some of that news may be about food.
Here's a roundup of news from around the region.
🚀 Noblesville city leaders are launching an $8.2 million infrastructure initiative next week to improve pedestrian safety, boost beautification and address critical aging infrastructure throughout downtown.
- According to the city, 30 years have passed since downtown's last significant infrastructure update.
- Phase one will focus on underground infrastructure and streetscape improvements along Logan Street between Eighth and Ninth streets.
What they're saying: "Embrace Downtown represents an important step forward in preserving our historic downtown and embracing the future of our community," Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen said in a statement. "This project will bring critical infrastructure improvements while supporting a safe, accessible area for people to shop, dine, and spend time downtown."
🏗️ Carmel city officials have detailed their busy 2026 construction plans, with city engineer Bradley Pease saying one of the benefits of overlapping work is the ability to "reduce repeat disruptions."
- High-profile work set to start this spring includes new roundabouts at the intersections of AAA Way at 116th Street, AAA Way at Carmel Drive and Carmel Drive at Kinzer Avenue; and raised pedestrian crosswalks at roundabouts along Hazel Dell Parkway and Gray Road.
Yes, but: The ongoing College Avenue work continues with partial spring closures and a 30-day full closure this summer to finish the roundabout at College Avenue and Pennsylvania Parkway.
🛑 Greenfield City Council voted to reduce the speed limit on a portion of Melody Lane from 30 mph to 20 mph.
- The change is the result of residents calling for safety improvements after Geraldine Johnson, 81, was killed by a truck while walking to a store.
- Two speed tables were also installed, and new pedestrian signage will be installed soon.
🛝 Greenwood's Freedom Park is set for its first major transformation in nearly two decades.
- Officials unveiled a long-term master plan for the park during a public meeting last week.
- Home to Freedom Springs Aquatic Park, Freedom Park could get new trails, fishing docks and an indoor pool that would be open year-round.
🍦 It's a bit chilly for ice cream, but a beloved name in the game is celebrating a new location in HamCo.
- Graeter's Westfield had a soft opening earlier this month, with an official grand opening event set for spring. It joins locations in Indianapolis, Fishers and Carmel.
