Meatless Monday: Axios Indy's holiday party at Matador

The Axios Indianapolis team went north for our holiday dinner for a delicious, shareable feast.

Where we went: Matador, Carmel's Spanish-inspired tapas restaurant that opened earlier this year in the spot formerly occupied by Tre on Main.

Anyone who remembers the downtown spot Barcelona Tapas (RIP) as fondly as I do will find something to love.

What we ordered: So many things, which is the beauty of small plates.

The marinated olives ($10), crystal bread smeared with piquillo pepper, tomato and manchego ($12) and fried potatoes aka patatas bravas ($12) were standouts.
If you eat seafood, the calamari ($14; served with a crazy good chimichurri alioli) was also a table favorite.

Between the lines: Each plate was full of flavor — smoky, garlicky, herby. Perfect for taking a bite or two and sharing with friends.

Open every day at 4pm. Until 8:30pm Sunday, 9pm Monday-Thursday and 10pm Friday and Saturday.
