Mansion Society is a westside hidden gem

The Axios Indy team had a westside retreat recently and started our day in the cozy confines of the Mansion Society coffee shop.

Driving the brews: The Mansion Society opened in late 2021 in an apartment building converted from the administration building of the former Central State Hospital, an infamous psychiatric hospital that operated for nearly 150 years before it closed in 1994.

The vibe: The space is the comfortable, lived-in kind of vintage — not stuffy at all.

The shop has become known for its creative drink menu, with a rotating menu of seasonal lattes that you won't find anywhere else and drool-worthy baked goods.

Brew of the week: Bread and butter latte, with flavors of sea salt and butterscotch.

Sweet and smooth — perfect to warm you up from the inside out on a cold winter day.
