For calorie-minded Hoosiers seeking some liquid relaxation this holiday season, I bring you a bubbly recommendation that goes alcohol-free in favor of a little THC.
Why it matters: This pick and other THC-infused brews like it may be pulled from shelves this time next year.
- The deal that reopened the government will close a loophole that allowed hemp-derived products to be sold in Indiana by November 2026 if lawmakers don't take action, so taste-test now if you're curious.
Brew of the week: Sun King Hemp Lemonade
- 10mg of Delta 9 THC. The drink's full lab report and cannabinoid profile can be found here, courtesy of Midwest Hemp Council member Agrozen Labs.
- Zero alcohol, sugar or calories.
My take: I went into this expecting something that tasted more chemical, like Sun King's Cotton Candy Ale.
- To my surprise, I got a crisp, refreshing lemon seltzer that goes light on additional flavors and skips the odd aftertaste.
- Paired with a plate of Thanksgiving leftovers, it was easy to drink from start to finish.
Zoom in: I can direct the same praise to Sun King Hemp's blueberry and blood orange offerings, but skip the wild cherry and lavender haze. The latter two are more heavy-handed with their flavors and don't deliver as satisfying of an experience.
- Plus: In terms of catching a buzz, I ate far too many Spicy Nacho Doritos and laughed harder at the jokes in Netflix's "A Merry Little Ex-Mas" than that movie's writing deserved, so it's safe to say this seltzer had its intended effect.
If you buy: You can pick up Sun King Hemp seltzers at any Sun King taproom, and a number of restaurants and retail stores across Central Indiana.
- A four-pack from Niemann Harvest Market in Carmel cost me $13.
