Meet the five local music acts preparing to bring the noise to one of Indianapolis' newest stages.
The inspo: The upcoming Local Music Showcase, presented by nonprofit Musical Family Tree, is a free, all-ages jam that furthers MFT's mission of celebrating grassroots music scenes and providing opportunities for Hoosier talent.
The intrigue: It's also one of the first big shows at The 808, a community stage and event venue inside the former Landsharks space that opened last month as part of the renovated Indy CD & Vinyl.
What they're saying: "Having a new place in Broad Ripple that's all-ages where we can provide a venue for the artists that we support and also be able to make it a free show is really unique for us," Musical Family Tree board member Bryan Robison told Axios.
- "We've got a lot of artists on this bill and there's a lot of variety, so there'll be something for everybody here."
Zoom in: Indianapolis rapper and songwriter Rhymacide will handle MC duties while Whodunit Beats will hit the DJ booth to spin between sets.
Here are the five acts that will take the stage:
🎤 Kyndl: A hip-hop artist hailing from Indy's far eastside known for her storytelling melodies and authenticity.
🎵 Jade Davidson: A self-taught singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer who blends bluesy grit with indie and jazz influences.
🚣 Watercourses: A trio that mixes progressive and pop elements to craft their self-styled "Indie-ana Kayak Rock."
🎸 Josh Gillespie Band: A band that mashes up the sounds of rock's golden era with the energy of modern indie styles.
🎷 Wampus Milk Daddies: A six-piece rock/jazz fusion band from Indianapolis that writes fast, melodic tunes.
If you go: Indy CD & Vinyl & The 808, 806-808 Broad Ripple Ave.
- Doors open at 5:30pm Saturday and the music starts at 6pm.
