Be the maker at annual Art Squared celebration

An annual celebration of local art in Fountain Square is inviting Indy residents to both meet the maker and be the maker this weekend.

Why it matters: For more than a decade, the Art Squared Festival has provided a platform for Circle City creators to sell their work while encouraging the next generation to pick up a paintbrush.

What they're saying: "I still remember the first Art Squared that I attended in 2017," Jeff Nordyke, district manager for Fountain Fletcher District Association, said in a statement. "I spent way too much money on art, but couldn't resist supporting so many local artists sharing their passion."

Zoom in: The free, all-ages gathering is headlined by a festival marketplace with more than 100 local artists showcasing their work. Vendor space is reserved for Hoosier artists, creators and community partners.

Masterpiece in a Day — a day-long free art contest — will give local creators of all skill levels the chance to create works of art on the spot for a cash prize.
Content entries will be hosted at Square Cat Vinyl, and the top 10 pieces will be displayed in The Murphy Arts Center for October's First Friday.

Live music will be provided by local musicians performing busking-style across the vendor space.

Plus: For the first time at Art Square, a creator space will be set up in the parking lot behind Fountain Square Tattoo, Wyldfire Tap and Hero House Comics for artist demos.
