New downtown restaurant has old school attitude

The big picture: Harrison's is drawing inspiration from a previous generation of restaurant — reliable staples and generous portions — but does so with enough modern touches to not feel out-of-date.

• Fresh bread comes to the table first. The menu is pretty traditional — pork chops, steak, chicken parm, pasta dishes.
• Your side options include buttered noodles, sautéed spinach and three kinds of potatoes. Old school.

What I ordered: The burrata salad ($15) was a good start, spring mix topped with a big ball of burrata, tomatoes, toasted pine nuts and a balsamic glaze.

• There aren't a lot of meat-free entree options but the fettuccine alfredo ($19) — not something I usually order — was a pleasant surprise. A creamy roasted red pepper alfredo sauce was a nice twist on the classic and hearty slices of roasted peppers in the pasta cut through what can quickly feel too heavy.
• The crispy parmesan garlic Brussels sprouts ($12) were solid, if not the best I've ever had. That title still belongs to The Bulldog.
