Todd Young has represented Indiana in the U.S. Senate since 2017.
Why it matters: Indiana's senior senator has made a name for himself as one of the few Republicans occasionally critical of President Donald Trump and a well-known Hoosier sports fan.
Zoom in: The Senate has had a busy summer, but when he's not sitting through a vote-a-rama, Young returns home to Johnson County and has his favorite central Indiana haunts.
- Here's how he'd spend his Best Day Ever in the Indy area.
๐ณ Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, bacon and black coffee โย usually at home.
- "Like any good Hoosier elected official, I am a big fan of Cafe Patachou across from the Statehouse," Young said.
๐ Morning activity: He spends a lot of time reading โ newspapers, magazines, briefing papers, books, etc. One of his favorite spots to break away and read is the Indiana State Library.
- If he wants to clear his head or get outside, he enjoys hiking. Eagle Creek Park is his favorite spot in the Indy area, and he enjoys hiking in Brown County State Park.
๐ Lunch: Friendly Tavern in Zionsville. "I like their wings and, yes, the friendly atmosphere," he said.
๐ Afternoon activity: The Indianapolis Zoo.
- "Check out the Chimpanzee Complex if you haven't been recently," he said.
๐ฎ Dinner: La Rosa's in Bargersville.
- "This is a favorite spot of our family," Young said. "Excellent chicken fajitas with the works and chips and queso."
๐บ Evening activity: Watching a movie or soccer.
- Young is a movie buff and his go-to theaters are the Greenwood mall or the Starlite drive-in theater in Bloomington.
- "I spend a lot of time watching soccer, either watching my daughter or pro soccer," he said. "I enjoy Indy Eleven games and follow IU soccer. More recently, I watched every Pacers playoff game. My cheering was apparently noticed by some of my colleagues."
