Coburn Place gets $100K to fight domestic violence

Threat level: According to a World Population Review study, Indiana has the 14th highest rate of domestic violence against women in the U.S., and ranks No. 42 for the rate of domestic violence against men.

Zoom in: Coburn Place will use the grant to fund its SHIELD Safety Project, which helps with stalking prevention, home and vehicle security, emergency relocation, legal advocacy and defense training.

• Officials say the funding will enhance safety for more than 70 Central Indiana families.

How it works: Impact 100 is a charitable women's giving circle that awards high-impact grants with a focus on funding critical needs, new ventures and innovative ways to solve social problems.

• Members donate $1,000 to join. Shared memberships, in which two to four women pool their money to share one vote, are also available.
• To date, Impact 100 has awarded 85 grants totaling over $3.3 million.

Zoom out: Impact 100 also provided $15,000 grants to Big Car Collaborative, Nine13 Sports, IndyHumane and Indiana Diaper Bank this year.

What's next: Coburn Place's annual lemonade stand fundraiser returns this week to raise money for kids' school supplies.
