This week's bite is somewhat difficult to describe, but extremely easy to recommend.
The bite: Shirred dukkah eggs ($19) from Eggshell Bistro.
- Lamb merguez, balsamic-roasted pearl onion, fire-roasted red pepper, plumped golden raisin, dukkah nut/seed/spice mix, hazelnut romesco, shirred hen's eggs and rose petal za-atar on grilled baguette.
The 'burb: Carmel.
My take: I was admittedly unfamiliar with a number of the ingredients in the menu description, making it difficult to set expectations about how the flavors of this North African–inspired dish would blend.
- The uncertainty added an element of anticipation before it arrived, and a dash of surprise when I took my first bite.
- I was delighted by this delicate, comforting breakfast skillet. All of the flavors were well balanced, but a special shoutout goes to hearty chunks of savory lamb hidden under the surface.
Plus: The grilled ciabatta was light and crispy, making it the perfect thing to dip into the silky yolk or top with dukkah mix.
The bottom line: If you're hungry for a brunch that goes beyond the boundaries of eggs and bacon, add Eggshell Bistro to your to-do list.
